SECTION TWO

WHY DID GOD WAIT UNTIL JESUS WAS BAPTIZED TO CALL HIM SON?

When Jesus left Heaven, came to earth and was born the God Man, much of the authority of God was taken from Him, but when He was baptized in the Jordan River in Matthew 3:16-17, much of the authority He had lost was given back to Him, even though He possessed the Holy Spirit when He left Heaven and was born as Jesus, the God Man.  Confused? I will explain.

To fully understand this mystery, we must first understand that nothing God made or created can be called "God" including angels. Since God Jesus made everything, when Jesus left Heaven and entered into the womb of Mary, He could not take with Him a created Spirit that He Himself had made. He had to take His own Spirit, which is the Holy Spirit.  Note:  Luke 1:35  "And when the Angel Gabriel told Mary that she would have a son, Mary asked,  'How can this be since I am a virgin?' And the Angel answered, 'The Holy Spirit will come upon you, and the power of the Most High will overshadow you.' " The key words are:  [Holy Spirit and the Power of the Most High].

What Gabriel is saying in this scripture is that God Jesus and the Holy Spirit who is the power of the Most High God came with Jesus and together entered into Mary's womb.

IMPORTANT: God the Father and God the Son share the same Spirit which is the Holy Spirit, so everywhere Jesus goes, so goes the Holy Spirit. The difference is that the Holy Spirit is also the mind and authority of God the Father. So, even though Jesus had much of the authority of the Holy Spirit, He did not have enough of the authority of God to wage war on Satan and Satan's demons or to perform the incredible miracles He performed until after He was baptized at the Jordan River and received the necessary authority from the Holy Spirit to do all the great miracles He performed while here on the earth.  Jesus did not receive the full and complete authority of God the Father and the Holy Spirit until after His crucifixion and Resurrection from the dead. Matthew 28:18  He Jesus said to the disciples, "All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to Me." NIV

For Jesus to wage war on Satan, his fallen angels and the demons, Jesus had to have a greater portion of the authority of God the Father and God the Holy Spirit. It is important to remember that Jesus did not commence His healing ministry or raise anyone from the dead until after He was baptized and received the necessary authority needed from God the Father through God the Holy Spirit.

CONCLUSION:

The authority of God is the Holy Spirit, and we can divide the authority given to Jesus by God the Father through the Holy Spirit into four parts.

In Heaven, before Jesus came to the earth, He had all the authority of the Father and the Holy Spirit because they both possess the same Spirit at the same time, who is the Holy Spirit even though He Jesus is a separate personage from God the Father, He is still an extension of The Father brought forth from out of the Father.

When Jesus came to earth, even though He came with the Holy Spirit, His own Spirit, He lost much of His authority because He became the God Man. In Hebrews 2:7-9, we are told that Jesus left Heaven, came to earth, and became Jesus, the God Man. By doing so, He was made a little lower than the Angels: And even though He never sinned because He became a man, He carried the sin nature of man handed down through man from Adam, and by suffering death, He tasted death for everyone who has or will ever be born of woman. When Jesus was baptized, even though He never sinned and was perfect, His baptism was symbolic of His purification, which is to die to the flesh even though He was sinless. After His purification through baptism, God the Father gave Jesus the necessary or additional authority through the Holy Spirit to wage war against Satan, his fallen angels, his demons and to overcome them.

In the preceding paragraph, where the scriptures say, "Jesus was made a little lower than the Angels," there are those who teach that the scripture should say, "Jesus was made a little lower than God."  This is wrong. What they fail to understand is that when Jesus was in Heaven, He was the second person of the Godhead, and His Spirit, who is the Holy Spirit, is the Spirit of both God the Father and God the Son Jesus. When Jesus left Heaven and was given birth through Mary, the Holy Spirit came with Him and gave Him life. For it is not the flesh, but the Spirit who gives life, and the Spirit of Jesus is the Holy Spirit who is God and the third person of the Godhead.

The God Man, Jesus, was made a little lower than the Angels, but the Spirit of Jesus is God the Holy Spirit. This is why He, Jesus is God Man, one hundred percent man and one hundred percent God. For man to be made a little lower than God would mean that man would have authority over the Angels in Heaven, when the Bible clearly teaches that man only had authority over the earth and all that dwelled on the earth which included Satan and his fallen angels but not authority over any part of Heaven or the Angels in Heaven.

After Jesus was crucified on the Cross, He completed the last act that God the Father required of Him and that was to physically die for the sins of the flesh for all men. Once Jesus had suffered a physical death, all sin was put under His Blood and He was re-established to His former Glory at which time, God the Father gave Him back the full authority He had had before He left Heaven, came to earth and became the God Man. Matthew 28:18  "He Jesus came to the disciples and said, "All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given to Me." NIV

The hidden mystery in this verse is what Jesus was actually saying, which is, "All authority in Heaven and on earth has been given back to Me."

THE HOLY SPIRIT - THE THIRD PERSON OF THE GODHEAD

The Holy Spirit was not made or created and was not brought forth out of God. The Holy Spirit is the mind and the authority of God and is the omnipresence of God. In Psalms 139:7-13 David verifies this when he says, "Where can I go from Your Spirit? Where can I flee from Your presence? If I go up to the heavens, You are there. If I make my bed in the depths, You are there. If I rise on the wings of the dawn, if I settle on the far side of the sea, even there Your hand will guide me; Your right hand will hold me fast.' If I say, 'Surely the darkness will hide me and the light become night around me, even the darkness will not be dark to You;  the night will shine like the day, for darkness is as light to You. For You created my inmost being; You knit me together in my mother's womb.' " NIV

In Luke 4:18 the Holy Spirit is called "He" and demonstrates His authority: "The Spirit of the Lord is on me. He has anointed me to preach the good news to the poor. He has sent me to proclaim freedom to the prisoners and recovery of sight for the blind, to release the oppressed." Even though the "He" in this passage speaks of the authority of the Holy Spirit, it also refers to God incorporating the two, as God; God Jesus Christ and God the Holy Spirit as one God in two separate personages.

Many of the things you will read in this study may seem new and foreign to you and you will need to pray for this same Holy Spirit to give you wisdom to understand and open the mind of your Spirit and the eyes of your heart to the mysteries of God that you may understand. Sometimes, it is difficult for me to put into words all that the Holy Spirit is conveying to me. So when I say something that you do not understand, go to The Lord in prayer and He will answer you. Remember, the Bible speaks in parables and is filled with mysteries, so "...the wise may not understand, but to the foolish (the humble), He gives understanding."

THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN SPEAK - IN PSALMS 2, THE BIBLE RECORDS A CONVERSATION BETWEEN GOD THE FATHER, GOD THE SON AND GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT.

(The Holy Spirit speaks)  "Why do the nations conspire and the peoples plot in vain? The kings of the earth take their stand and the rulers gather together against the LORD (God the Father) and against His Anointed One (God the Son Jesus Christ)."

(The Holy Spirit continues speaking, explaining what men on earth are saying)  "Let us break their chains," they say, "and throw off their fetters."

(
God the Father speaks of His Son, God Jesus) "The One enthroned in heaven laughs; The Lord scoffs at them. Then He rebukes them in His anger and terrifies them in His wrath saying,  'I have installed My King on Zion, My Holy Hill' (God's King is Jesus the Christ, the Son)."

(
God the Son, Jesus Christ speaks concerning what God the Father has just said to Him)  "I will proclaim the decree of the LORD when said to Me,  'You are My Son;  today, I have become Your Father.   Ask of Me, and I will make the nations your inheritance, the ends of the earth Your possession. You will rule them with an iron scepter; you will dash them to pieces like pottery.' "

(
The Holy Spirit speaks) "Therefore, you kings, be wise; be warned, you rulers of the earth.  Serve the LORD (God the Father) with fear and rejoice with trembling.  Kiss the Son (Jesus the Christ) lest He be angry, and you be destroyed in your way; for His wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in Him."  NIV

Although it is debatable, I believe that the Holy Spirit spoke to Nebuchadnezzar King of Babylon in Daniel 4:28-32, while others believe it was Jesus.  Daniel 4:28-32 "All this came upon King Nebuchadnezzar." 29 "At the end of the 12 months, he was walking about the royal palace of Babylon." 30 "The king spoke saying, 'Is not this great Babylon that I have built for a royal dwelling by my mighty power and for the honor of my majesty?' "

31  "While the word was still in the king's mouth, a voice fell from heaven:  'King Nebuchadnezzar, to you it is spoken:  The kingdom has departed from you!' " 32 "And they shall drive you from men, and your dwelling shall be with the beasts of the field. They shall make you eat grass like oxen; and seven times shall pass over you, until you know that the Most High rules in the kingdom of men and gives it to whomever He chooses."  NKJV

THE HOLY SPIRIT SPEAKS TO MAN

Acts 13:1  "Now there were in the church that was at Antioch certain prophets and teachers, as
Barnabas and Simeon, that was called Niger, and Lucius of Cyrene and Manaen, which had been
brought up with Herod the Tetrarch and Saul." 2  "As they ministered to The Lord and fasted, THE HOLY SPIRIT said, 'Separate me, Barnabas and Saul, for the work whereunto I have called them.' " 3 "And when they had fasted and prayed and laid their hands on them, they sent them away." 4 "So they, being sent forth by the Holy Ghost, departed unto Seleucia; and from thence, they sailed to Cyprus."

DID GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT APPEAR TO ABRAHAM AS MELCHIZEDEK, KING OF SALEM AND THE PRIEST OF THE MOST HIGH GOD?  IS MELCHIZEDEK THE HOLY SPIRIT?

Many Bible scholars and prophecy teachers do not even speculate as to who Melchizedek is. Some believe he was just a man, while others believe he was Jesus. There are only two answers as to who Melchizedek is.  He is either the Holy Spirit, or He is Jesus appearing as Melchizedek and speaking of Himself in the second person.  I personally believe Melchizedek is the Holy Spirit. If you will recall, God Jesus appeared to Abraham in Ur and two times in Canaan and Abraham knew His face and His voice, but this man who called himself Melchizedek, Abraham did not know His face or His voice.

When Abraham, the father of the Jewish nation, was in the land of Canaan, a man named Melchizedek, appeared to him with two other men Angels and presented himself to Abraham as both the King of Salem and the Priest of the Most High God.

Genesis 14:18-24  "Then Melchizedek King of Salem brought out bread and wine. He was the Priest of God Most High.  At this point in time, God Jesus had not left Heaven and become a man, so Melchizedek was referring to both God the Father and God the Son. Then Melchizedek blessed Abram saying, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of Heaven and earth "Who is God Jesus," and blessed be God Most High "Who is also God Jesus" who delivered your enemies into your hand. Then Abram gave him a tenth of everything."  NIV

Notice in the previous scriptures, that Melchizedek seems to be speaking as the Holy Spirit, who is the third person of the Godhead and He displays His authority when He says, "Blessed be Abram by God Most High, Creator of Heaven and earth.  And blessed be God Most High, who delivered your enemies into your hand."

NOTE: Melchizedek is blessing both Abraham, God the Father and God the Son Jesus from the third person of the Godhead, who is the Holy Spirit. Therefore, I have to conclude that Melchizedek can be none other than the Holy Spirit.

We know that He is blessing Jesus because it was God Jesus who made everything in Heaven and earth and under the earth.  John 1:3 "Through Him, referring to Jesus, all things were made; without Him, nothing was made that has been made." In Proverbs 8:22, Jesus said, referring to Himself,  "I was the craftsman."

In Psalms 76:2, the psalmist refers to the City of God, and His Mountain.  "His tent is in Salem, His dwelling place in Zion."  NIV

In Hebrews 7:1-3, we learn that this same Melchizedek was King of Salem and Priest of God the Most High.

Hebrews 7:1-3, He Melchizedek met Abraham returning from the defeat of the kings and blessed him, and Abraham gave him a tenth of everything. Melchizedek means "King of Righteousness."

King of Salem means "King of Peace."  The scriptures describe Melchizedek: "Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life, like the Son of God, He remains a priest forever."  NIV

In the previous verse, the scriptures tell us that Melchizedek is "Without father or mother, without genealogy, without beginning of days or end of life,
like the Son of God, He remains a priest forever."
The Word
LIKE in Hebrew means to assimilate closely which means to be like, but not the same. New Exhaustive Strong's Numbers and Concordance with Expanded Greek-Hebrew Dictionary. If Melchizedek is not God the Father and is not God Jesus, He can be no other than God the Holy Spirit because He has "no father or mother and is without genealogy, and without beginning of days or end of life."  What we must understand is that the Holy Spirit does not bring attention to Himself, but brings all honor, praise and Glory to God, which is exactly what Melchizedek is doing in these passages of scripture.

One other point of interest that I might make is that even though the Bible clearly sets forth that God Jesus is without genealogy, it also establishes that the God Man Jesus does have genealogy through Mary His mother.

Melchizedek is only mentioned in these few chapters and is not mentioned again in the entire Bible, but from what He said and did leaves no doubt in my mind that He is, in fact, the Holy Spirit. One other point that I might make here is that Salem became what is today Jerusalem and the city where Jesus will set up His one-thousand-year Kingdom when He returns and rules the earth. Mt. Zion will be the mountain where at the end of this age, God Jesus will dwell for all eternity with God the Father and God the Holy Spirit.  Three personages, yet one God.
