SECTION THREE

THE HOLY SPIRIT CAN TAKE FORM

In Acts 2:1-4, the Bible teaches us that the Holy Spirit is not just an invisible spirit, but that He can take form.  Acts 2:1-4  "When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. Suddenly, a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from Heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them.   All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit enabled them."

Remember earlier when we talked about the authority of the Holy Spirit, Acts 2:1-4 is another example of the Holy Spirit's authority. "There were over 120 men and women at that meeting in the upper room. Yet, the Holy Spirit caused a wind to blow, after which He took the form of 120 cloven tongues that entered into every man and woman there, giving each of them the authority to speak in one of over sixteen different languages they did not speak or understand which were spoken in Jerusalem at that time."

THE HOLY SPIRIT - THE MIND AND AUTHORITY OF GOD

IMPORTANT:   Earlier when I said, the Holy Spirit is the mind and authority of God, I am not inferring that when we accept Jesus as our Personal Savior and the Holy Spirit comes to live in our hearts that we suddenly acquire all the wisdom, knowledge, power and the authority of God. But, rather that He gives us the necessary authority, power and understanding that we need, according to His Will and purpose for our lives to accomplish the task or ministry that He has set forth for us to complete.

WE CAN GRIEVE THE HOLY SPIRIT

The Book of Ephesians sets forth how we can grieve the Holy Spirit. Ephesians 4:30-32 "And do not grieve (to sin, to reject Jesus Christ's free gift of salvation, to turn your back on God and return to your earthly ways) the Holy Spirit of God with whom you were sealed for the day of redemption." 31 "Get rid of all bitterness, rage and anger, brawling and slander, along with every form of malice."  32 "Be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving each other, just as God forgave you."  NIV

BIBLE REFERENCE: [Matthew 6:14-15 For if you forgive men when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. 15 But if you do not forgive men their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins.] NIV (The redeemed may enter Heaven, however, not obtain the rewards and crowns he might have had, had he exercised forgiveness in his heart in his lifetime.)

BIBLE REFERENCE:  [Colossians 3:8-14 But now you must rid yourselves of all such things as these: anger, rage, malice, slander, and filthy language from your lips. 9 Do not lie to each other, since you have taken off your old self with its practices 10 and have put on the new self, which is being renewed in knowledge in the image of its Creator (Jesus Christ)11 Here there is no Greek or Jew, circumcised or uncircumcised, barbarian, Scythian (Russian), slave or free, but Christ is all, and is in all. 12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness and patience. 13 Bear with each other and forgive whatever grievances you may have agains one another. Forgive as The Lord forgave you. 14 And over all these virtues, put on love, which binds them all together in perfect unity.] NIV

THE GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

A good example of the Holy Spirit being an extension of God's mind and authority is through the gifts of the Holy Spirit we receive, after we are saved, and have taken Jesus as Our Lord and Personal Savior.

NOTE:  Everyone who accepts Jesus Christ as their Lord and Personal Savior receives a spiritual gift, but not everyone receives all the spiritual gifts. In Ephesians 4:9-11, one might tend to believe that the scriptures are referring to Jesus as giving the gifts, but when we understand the passage, we quickly discover that it is actually the Holy Spirit who gives the gifts.

GIFTS OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

Ephesians 4:9-1  To some, to be apostles;  some, to be prophets;  some, to be evangelists, and some, to be pastors and teachers to prepare God's People for works of service, so that the Body of Christ may be built up until we all reach unity in the faith in the knowledge of the Son of God and become mature, attaining to the whole measure of the fullness of Christ."  NIV

The "whole measure of the fullness of Christ" refers to the time that we are either raptured, or die and receive our immortal bodies that will have no sin nature in them. Only through our resurrected, sinless, immortal bodies will we finally obtain spiritual maturity and the fullness of Christ.

It is important to also note here that no matter what gift the Holy Spirit gives you, you automatically receive a bonus gift and that is the authority to pray for others and their needs, including healing.   Before Jesus ascended into Heaven, He told the disciples in John 14:12-14  "I tell you the truth: Anyone who has faith in Me will do what I have been doing. He will do even greater things than these because I am going to the Father. And I will do whatever you ask in My Name, so that the Son may bring glory to the Father. You may ask Me for anything in My Name, and I will do it."  NIV

As a believer, this same Holy Spirit in Christ resides in you, so when you pray, pray with the authority of the Holy Spirit, have the faith-filled expectation that your prayer will be answered and Jesus who is in Heaven will answer your prayers through the Holy Spirit in you.

EXAMPLE OF GOD AND THE HOLY SPIRIT BEING ONE

The following excerpt is an event that took place after the death of Jesus in the 1st Century A.D. and is recorded in Acts 5:1 "Now a man named Ananias, together with his wife, Sapphira, sold a piece of property. With his wife's full knowledge, he kept back part of the money for himself, brought the rest, and put it at the apostles' feet. Then Peter said, 'Ananias, how is it that Satan has so filled your heart that [you have lied to the Holy Spirit and have kept for yourself some of the money you received for the land? What made you think of doing such a thing? [You have not lied to men but to God].' "  NIV

THE GODHEAD WHO SPOKE TO MAN AND APPEARED TO MAN ON THE EARTH

The Bible says that "No man has ever seen the face of GOD."  When Moses asked to see God's face, God replied, (Exodus 33:20) "You cannot see My face, for no one may see My face and live."  NIV

If God refused to let Moses, a man He loved and personally buried after his death, see His face, then who was it that appeared to Adam, Abraham, Moses, Joshua and many others in the Old Testament?  I believe that it was Jesus the second part of the Godhead who appeared and spoke to these men and it was God Jesus who actually said no man can see His face in all His Glory and live.

THE THREE PERSONAGES THAT JESUS APPEARED TO MAN ON EARTH

1.  Jesus appeared to man as The Angel of the Lord, also called The Angel of God.
2.
Jesus appeared to Joshua as the Commander of the Army of God.

In the Old Testament, Jesus often appeared to man in the form of an Angel, when He had a task that only He could complete or a message that only He could deliver because of the content of the message.

Jesus appeared to Hagar as The Angel of the Lord.

In Genesis 16:9-13, Hagar the slave of Sarai, the wife of Abraham, the father of the Jewish Nation, ran away from her mistress out into the desert because she was angry with her mistress and with Abraham. At the time of this event, Hagar was pregnant with her son, Ishmael, and was not thinking clearly. Leaving the camp of Abraham, she ran out into the desert without enough water to sustain herself until she reached safety. Not far into the desert, she ran out of water and both tired and thirsty, she sat down to rest. Soon afterwards, Jesus in the form of The Angel of The Lord appeared to her.

Genesis 16:9-13  "Go back to your mistress and submit to her, "The Angel of the Lord told her. 'I will so increase your descendants that they will be too numerous to count.'  Then The Angel of the Lord said,  "You are now with child and you will have a son. You will name him Ishmael, for the LORD has heard of your misery. He will be a wild donkey of a man: his hand will be against everyone and everyone's hand against him, and he will live in hostility toward all brothers.' Then after hearing the Lord's words, Hagar gave this name to the Lord: 'You are the God who sees me,' for she said, 'I have now seen the one who sees me.' "  NIV

In this passage, Hagar acknowledges the fact that she is speaking to God, who was God Jesus, even though God appeared to her as "The Angel of The Lord." After The Angel of the Lord had finished speaking to Hagar, she gave him the name, "You are the God who sees me."  No Angel or created being can ever accept worship or be called "God."

The Bible contains 55 scriptures in the Old Testament that refer to "The Angel of The Lord," and five scriptures that refer to "The Angel of God." All occur before the birth of Jesus.

NOTE:  Although Angels appear all throughout the New Testament, neither The Angel of the Lord nor The Angel of God ever appear anywhere in the scriptures after the birth of Jesus Christ, with the exception of Jesus appearing in the form of a light to Paul on the Road to Damascus.

The Angel Of The Lord appeared to Moses

In Exodus 3:2 The Angel of The Lord appeared to Moses in the burning bush.

In 2 Kings 19:35 The Angel of the Lord killed 185,000 Assyrian soldiers in a single night. Additional events are described under "Angels," in a later chapter.

Jesus appeared to Joshua as the Commander of the Army of God.

In Joshua 5:13-15 after the death of Moses, Joshua led the Jewish Nation across the Jordan River and was on his way to Jericho. "Looking up, he saw a man standing in front of him with a drawn sword in His hand.  Joshua went up to Him and asked, 'Are you for us or for our enemies?  Neither,'  He replied. 'But as Commander of the Army of the LORD,' and Joshua fell on his face to the earth in reverence, and asked Him, 'What message does my Lord have for His servant?' The Commander of the LORD'S army replied, 'Take off your sandals, for the place where you are standing is holy.' And Joshua did so.' "  NIV

I AM WHO I AM - THE NAME JESUS GAVE TO HIMSELF

Jesus appeared to Moses as The Angel of the Lord.  The name "I AM WHO I AM" is the name God Jesus gave to Himself in the burning bush on Mt. Horeb when He appeared to Moses as The Angel of The Lord.

Exodus 3:1-2 "Now Moses was tending the flock of Jethro, his father-in-law, the priest of Midian, and he led the flock to the far side of the desert and to Horeb, the Mountain of God.  There, The Angel of the LORD appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush."  NIV

After The Angel of the LORD told Moses to go back to Egypt, Moses asked God His name. And God answered Moses saying,  (Exodus 3:14-13) "I AM WHO I AM."  Jesus was the only one to ever claim this title.

THE THREE TIMES GOD JESUS APPEARED ON EARTH IN HIS GLORY

Jesus appeared to Abraham in all His Glory The first time God appeared on earth in all His Glory was in Genesis 15:7-21 when He made a covenant with Abraham, but even then, God put Abraham into a deep sleep so that he could not see His Glory.

Jesus appeared to Moses in all His Glory The second time God Jesus appeared on the earth in all His Glory was during the 40 years that the Israelites wandered in the desert. During those years, God Jesus would come many times to the transportable temple and when He did, Moses would always enter the temple and God Jesus would speak to Moses face-to-face as one friend would speak to another. On one occasion in Exodus 22:19-20, Moses asked God Jesus to show him His Glory.

Exodus 22:19-20  "And the LORD replied to Moses, 'I will cause all my goodness to go in front of you, and I will proclaim My Name, the LORD, in your presence. I will have mercy on whom I will have mercy, and I will have compassion on whom I will have compassion. 'But,' He said, 'you cannot see My face, for no one man can see Me and live.' "

Although Jesus only appeared on earth two times in a physical form in all His Glory, He did appear in a pillar of cloud and a pillar of fire shortly after the Jews left Egypt.

Exodus 13:21-22  "By day, the LORD went ahead of them in a pillar of cloud to guide them on their way; and by night, in a pillar of fire to give them light, so that they could travel by day or night. Neither the pillar of cloud by day nor the pillar of fire by night left its place in front of the people."  NIV

BIRTH - LIFE - DEATH - SOUL - SPIRIT

In Genesis, the Bible teaches us that God made man in His own image.  Genesis 1:26 "Then God said, 'Let us make man in our image, in our likeness.' " NIV

When God Jesus made man, He took a clump of clay and formed an image in the likeness of Himself, and when He had finished making man, man was still just a clump of clay.  Genesis 2:7 "And God Jesus breathed into this man's nostrils the breath of life, and the man became a living being."  NIV

It was not until God Jesus breathed life into man, giving him a soul and a spirit that man became a living being.

The soul that resides in man is man's consciousness and is his awareness of God and the knowledge of right and wrong, good and evil.

The spirit in man is the real man and our bridge or link to God through the Holy Spirit that lives inside every believer. When the physical body dies, the Spirit body that never dies takes the form of what the Bible calls "our immortal body."  At the moment of death, our immortal body instantly goes to one of two places:  It either goes to be with Jesus in Heaven or it goes to the Lake of Fire in the center of the earth to await the final judgment, after which it will be cast into the lake of fire in outer darkness.

Do not let anyone mislead you by telling you your Spirit stays in the ground asleep or floats around somewhere, or worse yet, wanders around here on earth as a ghost and can appear to those living on earth.

Ecclesiastes 12:6  Speaking of death, the Bible teaches "Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern." 7 "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, and the Spirit shall return unto God who gave it."

James 2:25-26 25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute considered righteous for what she did when she gave lodging to the spies and sent them off in a different direction? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead. NIV

There are no such things as ghosts. What people perceive to be ghosts are fallen angels and demonic spirits. The demonic spirits have been here on earth since the days of Adam and Eve and are the offspring of the fallen angels who took wives of the daughters of men and had children called "Nephilim," half fallen angel-and-half man unto the fourth generation. When Satan and his angels fell from grace and were kicked out of heaven, many of the fallen angels took the daughters of men as wives giving birth to the Nephilim. This angered God so much that He destroyed the earth with a flood, sparing only eight people: Noah, his wife, his three sons, and the three wives of the three sons.

Since the Nephilim were neither man nor angel and had no means of salvation, after God destroyed their bodies, they became the demonic spirits that roam the earth today, possessing and oppressing man. We have no way of knowing just how many demonic spirits there are in the world but there have to be millions, possibly billions of them based on the evil we see in the world today. More on the Nephilim in a later chapter.

Book of Enoch, Chapter 15:9  9.) The earth (and the Abyss below the earth) and on the earth shall be their (the evil spirits') dwelling (place, and in the indwelling of man shall be their refuge and their sanctuary through demonic possession).

The next question you are probably asking is where did our soul or Spirit come from. The Bible makes it very clear in the Book of Ephesians that God Jesus created our Spirit before He created the foundation of the earth.  Ephesians 1:4  "For He chose us in Him before the creation of the world."

If He Jesus chose us in Him before the creation of the earth, it would stand to reason that we had to be there with Him in Heaven when He created the earth, maybe even before He created the Angels, or at least at the same time.  Remember the words in Ecclesiastes 12:6 referring to death,
"Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, and the Spirit shall return unto God who gave it." It certainly gives you something to think about.

DEATH

Man becomes a living soul when the Spirit enters the embryo, and death occurs instantly when the Spirit leaves the body at the moment of death.  James 2:16 "Without the Spirit, the body is dead."  So when the Spirit leaves the body, the body instantly dies."

Ecclesiastes 12:6  "Or ever the silver cord be loosed, or the golden bowl be broken, or the pitcher be broken at the fountain, or the wheel broken at the cistern." 7 "Then shall the dust return to the earth as it was, and the Spirit shall return unto God who gave it."

DID THE ROMANS KILL JESUS OR DID JESUS LAY DOWN HIS OWN LIFE AND WHO RAISED JESUS UP FROM THE DEAD?

If you were to take a poll, you would probably find out that 99.9% of all pastors, teachers and evangelists teach that the Romans crucified and killed Jesus.  Although it is true that the Romans did in fact, crucify Jesus, if we examine the scriptures, we find that Jesus gave up His own life before the Romans could complete their task.  In John 10:17 Jesus tells us very clearly that NO MAN can take His life.

GOD THE FATHER RAISED JESUS GOD THE SON UP FROM THE DEAD

In Acts 3:26 and in 1 Thessalonians, GOD THE FATHER says He raised Jesus up from the dead.

     Acts 3:26  "Unto You first
GOD, having RAISED UP HIS SON JESUS, sent Him to bless you, in turning away every one of you from his iniquities."

1 Thessalonians GOD THE FATHER SAYS,  "And to wait for His Son from Heaven, whom
HE RAISED from the dead, even JESUS, which delivered us from the wrath to come."

Acts 17:31  "Because He hath appointed a day in the which He will judge the world in righteousness by that man whom He hath ordained; whereof, He hath given assurance unto all men, in that He hath raised Him from the dead."

GOD THE HOLY SPIRIT RAISED JESUS GOD THE SON UP FROM THE DEAD

Romans 8:11  SPEAKING OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, "But if the Spirit of Him that raised up Jesus from the dead dwell in you, He that raised up Christ from the dead shall also quicken your mortal bodies by His Spirit that dwelleth in you."

CONCLUSION

Based on the scriptures:  If God the Father, God the Son, and God the Holy Spirit all raised Jesus, God the Son up from the dead, we can only be left with only one conclusion,  "All three are ONE GOD in THREE PERSONAGES.
