SECTION FOUR

EXAMPLE THAT THE SPIRIT BOTH GIVES LIFE AND TAKES LIFE AWAY

Luke 8:51-55 "When Jesus arrived at the house of Jairus, He did not let anyone go in with Him, except Peter, John and James and the child's father and mother. Meanwhile, all the people were wailing and mourning for the child.  'Stop wailing,' Jesus said,  'She is not dead but asleep.' They laughed at Him, knowing that she was dead. But Jesus took her by the hand and said, 'My child, get up!' Her Spirit returned and at once, she stood up." NIV

In the Gospel of Matthew, Matthew describes the death of Jesus and the Holy Spirit leaving His body causing death. Matthew 27:50  "And when Jesus had cried out again in a loud voice, He gave up His Spirit." Luke 8:51-56 "Jesus called out with a loud voice, 'Father, into Your hands I commit My Spirit.' When He had said this, He breathed His last." NIV

Although Jesus knows the end from the beginning and knew the moment He would die, I believe in my heart of hearts, that He gave up His own Spirit at the moment of death to fulfill John 10:17 "Therefore doth My Father love Me, because I lay down My life, that I might take it again."

THE KNOWLEDGE OF GOOD AND EVIL

The knowledge of good and evil is not learned, it comes with the flesh when we are born, but not through the Spirit that gives us life, but through our flesh, which is passed down from Adam and Eve. When Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the knowledge of good and evil was passed through the body or the seed of Adam and Eve to every man and woman ever born on the earth. Thus, sin became a part of the nature of man and although Satan is the father of all sin and caused sin to come into the world when he tempted Eve, and then Adam through Eve, both Adam and Eve knew right from wrong and had the authority given to them by God to overcome Satan.

We know this from Genesis 2:15-17  "The LORD God took the man and put him in the Garden of Eden to work it and take care of it." 16 "And the LORD God commanded the man, 'You are free to eat from any tree in the garden...' 17 '...but, you must not eat from the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat of it, you will surely die.' " NIV

We also know that Eve knew the difference between right and wrong from Genesis  3:2-3 "The woman said to the serpent, 'We may eat fruit from the trees in the garden.'  3  But God did say, 'You must not eat fruit from the tree that is in the middle of the garden, and you must not touch it, or you will die.' "  NIV

Knowing right from wrong, Eve was the first to fall to Satan's temptation because of pride and jealousy, wanting to be like God. As soon as Satan opened her eyes by telling her that by eating of the fruit of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil she would be like God, knowing good and evil, the temptation was too great, and she did eat. And after eating of the tree, she gave the fruit to her husband Adam, who also did eat.

When Adam and Eve ate of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, the knowledge of evil or sin entered into their hearts causing death--it also separated them from God and the loss of their authority over Satan, the fallen angels, the animals and the earth went back to Satan. What we must understand is that it was not the knowledge of right or wrong that caused Adam and Eve to fall from grace, but the fact that they succumbed to the temptation, knowing it was wrong, and what God called "sin," that separated them from God and caused death to come to man.

Proof that Adam gave back all the authority over the earth to Satan is found in Matthew 4:8-9 "Now the devil Satan took Jesus to a very high mountain and showed Him all the kingdoms of the world and their splendor, and showing Jesus all these things Satan said, 'All this I will give you, if you will bow down and worship me.' "  NIV

IMPORTANT:  Jesus hearing Satan did not dispute Satan's authority over the earth.

Although Satan regained authority over the earth after Adam and Eve ate of the fruit of the tree, before he can come against a righteous man, better known today as a "believer," a person who has accepted Jesus Christ as their Lord and Savior, he must first go before God and both ask for and receive permission. We know this from Job 2:4 where the Bible tells us how Satan went before God and asked permission to torment Job which God gave, with the limitation that he could not kill Job.

THE DIFFERENT TYPES OF ANGELS

The Bible tells us that God created several types of Angels: seven that we know of and probably many more that we are not aware of. Unlike humans, Angels are not bound by space, time, or any other dimension that we know of. It is believed that Angels travel by thought. Angels can appear and disappear at will, and travel great distances in a moment, in an instant of time. The Bible refers to the angels as ministering spirits. They can hear, feel, smell, eat, touch, drink, kill, and change into different forms including human form.

In addition to these attributes, Angels have free will, the ability to decide right from wrong, great knowledge, incredible strength, and they never get tired or have a need to rest. Although Angels have the ability to reproduce with humans, as we will find out later in this study, it is God's Will that they refrain from doing so. In Matthew 22, Jesus was asked if the redeemed would be able to marry in Heaven. He answered, comparing the redeemed with the Angels in Heaven. Matthew 22:30  For in the resurrection they,
the redeemed, will neither marry, nor are given in marriage, but are as the Angels in Heaven.

THE TITLES OF ANGELS

Angels have many titles, such as Watchers, Daniel 4:13-17 - Stars, Revelation 12:4  -  Heavenly Host, 2 Kings 6:15 -  Holy Ones, Daniel 4:13 and 8:13 and Jude 14  - Ministering Spirits, Hebrews 1:14 and Psalms 104:4  -  Sons of Mighty, Psalms 89:6-8  -  Sons of God, Job 1:6 and Job 38:7 and Genesis 6:2-4.

Although Angels are mentioned many times in the Bible, only four Angels are actually called by name, but in the Book of Enoch, there are many Angels called by name, including Michael and Gabriel:

1.  In the Old and the New Testament, Michael is called the Archangel is also called "One of
the Chief Princes." Michael is a warrior Angel, and is assigned by God to watch over and
protect Israel.

2.  Gabriel is a high-ranking Angel and identifies himself as "The Mighty One of God, who
stands in The presence of God." The Bible does not tell us what kind of Angel Gabriel is.

3.  Lucifer also called Satan among many other titles was created a Cherub angel and was
called "The Anointed Cherub," also "the Morning Star, Son of the Dawn." Before his fall,
Lucifer was the most beautiful angel in Heaven. Even after his fall, he still had the ability to
appear as an angel of light.

4.  In Revelation 9:1-11, John speaks of the fourth angel mentioned in the Bible, whose
name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon. The Bible tells us that this fallen angel
will be the king of the demons who comes up out of the Abyss in the middle of the seven-
year Tribulation. Revelation 9:1-11 "They had as king over them the angel of the Abyss,
whose name in Hebrew is Abaddon, and in Greek, Apollyon."  NIV

ANGELS CANNOT ACCEPT PRAISE OR BE WORSHIPED

In Revelation 19:10, an Angel appeared to John and he fell down at his feet to worship the Angel, but the Angel denied him saying, "Do not do it! I am a fellow servant with you and with your brothers who hold to the testimony of Jesus. Worship God! For the testimony of Jesus is the Spirit of prophecy."  NIV

ANGELS CANNOT BE CALLED GOD

In Hebrews 2:5-9, we learn that no Angel can be called "God" or rule over the earth, that only Jesus the Son of God is crowned with Glory and honor and all things were put under His feet because He suffered death for the sins of all.

"Thou God the Father made Him Jesus a little lower than the Angels; Thou crowned Him with Glory and honour, and did set Him over the works of thy hands: Thou hast put all things in subjection under His feet. For in that He put all in subjection under Him, He left nothing [that is] not put under Him. But now, we see not yet all things put under Him. But we see Jesus, who was made a little lower than the Angels for the suffering of death, crowned with Glory and honour, that He, by the grace of God should taste death for every man."

HOW MANY ANGELS DID GOD CREATE?

Although the Bible does not tell us how many angels God created, it does indicate in the Book of Psalms the number of them, yet I believe there are billions of them. In Psalms 68:16-17 "God says, referring to the angels and the number of them: 'Why gaze in envy, O rugged mountains, at the mountain where God chooses to reign, where the LORD Himself will dwell forever? The chariot angels are tens of thousands and thousands of thousands.' " NIV

DID GOD CREATE ALL THE ANGELS AT THE SAME TIME

In the Book of Psalms, we also learn that all of the Angels in Heaven were created at the same time, and their creation was instantaneous. Psalms 148:2-6 "Praise Him, all His Angels, Praise Him, all His Heavenly Hosts. Praise Him, sun and moon; Praise Him, all you shining stars.  Praise Him, you highest heavens and you waters above the skies. Let them praise the Name of the LORD, for He commanded and they were created. He set them in place forever and ever."

THE SEVEN KINDS OF ANGELS DESCRIBED IN THE BIBLE AND THEIR TITLES

Cherub ………………………..........Cherubim
Seraphs ……………………….........Seraphim
Living Creatures also called
..Zoa
Archangels
…………………….......Warrior Angels
The Angel of God
…………….....Jesus the Christ
The Angel of the Lord
………....Jesus the Christ
Regular Angels ………………......Ministering spirits (All angels are ministering spirits)

Even though the different types of Angels have specific duties, all Angels are ministering spirits or messengers of God. Gabriel was a messenger of God and believed by many to be an Archangel.

LUCIFER - THE ANOINTED CHERUB

God's Word tells us that Lucifer was created a Cherub, and many serious Bible students believe that he was not only created a Cherub, but an Archangel as well. Respectfully, I do not share this belief.  Ezekiel 28:12-15 gives a detailed description of Lucifer as a Cherub, and leaves no doubt in my mind that if God also created him an Archangel, Ezekiel would have told us. The Bible refers to Lucifer many times by many different names, but never as any other type of angel other than a Cherub angel.

Cherubim are believed by many to be the highest-ranking class or type of angelic beings created by God Jesus and are referred to 96 times in the Bible. According to all the references in the Bible regarding Cherubim, their primary duties seem to be gathered around God's throne and the protection of God's throne and anything else that God wants to protect, including the Garden of Eden, after Adam and Eve were cast out.

Of all the angels that God created, Lucifer or Satan was the most beautiful of all. He has one head, two wings, and the ability to change forms even into an angel of light.

Ezekiel describes the perfection, wisdom, and beauty of Lucifer before he rebelled and fell from grace.   Ezekiel 28:12-19 "You were the model of perfection, full of wisdom and perfect in beauty. You were in Eden, the garden of God; every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created, they were prepared. You were anointed as a guardian Cherub, for so I ordained you. You were on the holy mount of God; you walked among the fiery stones."

NOTE:  In the previous scripture where Ezekiel says, "Every precious stone adorned you: ruby, topaz and emerald, chrysolite, onyx and jasper, sapphire, turquoise and beryl. Your settings and mountings were made of gold; on the day you were created, they were prepared." I believe that the stones described here are symbolic of precious stones full of light mounted in gold and were actually a part of Satan's form. I also believe that before Satan's rebellion, he was the fourth in command over all that God made and created. I too believe that after Satan's fall, the light of the stones was taken away, but that the stones remained.

CHERUB OR CHERUBIM ANGELS - THE FIRST OF FOUR TYPES

The Bible speaks of four different types of Cherubim. The first type of Cherub is described in Ezekiel 1:5-14  "In appearance, their form was that of a man, but each of them had four faces and four wings. Their legs were straight; their feet were like those of a calf and gleamed like burnished bronze.  Under their wings on their four sides, they had the hands of a man. All four of them had faces and wings, and their wings touched one another. Each one went straight ahead; they did not turn as they moved. Their faces looked like this: Each of the four had the face of a man, and on the right side, each had the face of a lion; and on the left, the face of an ox; each also had the face of an eagle. Such were their faces.

Their wings were spread out upward; each had two wings, one touching the wing of another creature on either side, and two wings covering its body. Each one went straight ahead. Wherever the spirit would go, they would go, without turning as they went. The appearance of the Living Creatures was like burning coals of fire or like torches. Fire moved back-and-forth among the creatures; it was bright, and lightning flashed out of it. The creatures sped back-and-forth like flashes of lightning."  NIV
